Get involved
The True Food Co-op membership system, how does it work?
There are two levels of membership – Basic and Active. As a Basic Member, once you’ve paid your £10 annual subscription, you’ll benefit from:
- being a co-owner of True Food Co-op (TFC)
- £20 of discount vouchers, each worth £1.25 toward £10 of shopping
- and subsidised socials, courses and outings, like visits to local organic farms.
To become an Active Member, all you need to do is commit to spending at least three hours per four-week period helping with some of the many tasks that need completing to keep TFC running smoothly. This could be anything from cleaning the shop to assisting with the accounts.
In addition to the Basic Member benefits, for each four-week period in which you’ve met the minimum Active Membership commitment, you’ll:
- receive an additional £30 of discount vouchers
- and have access to exclusive special offers available only to Active Members.
There’s no need to have relevant experience for most tasks – you’ll receive any training you need. Even without the financial incentive, most helpers find getting more involved very rewarding. It’s a great way to develop new skills, meet new people and feel part of your local community. You can become an Active Member at any time, so you don’t have to commit right away.
The membership scheme helps to encourage more people to join. After all, you’ll instantly get double the joining fee back in vouchers, so there’s nothing to lose!
As well as giving you more healthy, sustainable groceries for your money, the initial £20 of vouchers will give everyone a taster of what it’s like to be an Active Member.
TFC couldn’t function without its volunteer helpers. And the more of us get actively involved, the better the co-op will be.
