Renew your membership

|

Last year we moved to an annual membership system so now is the time to renew for another year. For the small sum of five pounds you can continue to benefit from special members-only discounts and make your contribution to the success of our favourite local food market. Look out for information at the markets.

Final market at RISC

|
Saturday 12th December saw the final market to be held at RISC. Customers in the central Reading area are now served by the Wednesday evening market at the Wesley Methodist church hall on Queens Road about 5 minutes walk from the old venue. The decision to close the Saturday market was made in order to free up resources for the new weekly Wednesday evening market and the shop due to open next Spring. It also means that all markets are now weekly, and so easier to remember, and staff are not required to work at the weekend.

Plant Swap at Downshire Market

|
The TV Garden programs tell us that it is now a good time to divide up our perennials and herbs. We should also be looking for gaps in our beds and plan to fill them next season. At Downshire Square we think we can help and match spare plants with empty spaces. A plant exchange will be running at the regular Tuesday markets whilst the weather is still autumnal. We want to know if you have any plants you can donate or if you are looking for something in particular for your garden. If you don’t garden yet but fancy starting a herb garden in a pot then come along for a chat.

We have started a list of plants available and plants wanted and are arranging dates to bring plants in for collection by future owners. So far plants available include chives, sage, wild strawberry, lovage, crocosmia, cape gooseberry, michaelmas daisies and wild cyclamen. Some plants will have photos as their names are lost in time, so don’t worry if you don’t know what your plants are called, that’s all part of the fun.

Downshire Square Market is held at All Saint’s Church Hall, Downshire Square (between Bath Road and Tilehurst Road) 5pm – 8pm every Tuesday.

New Central Reading Market on Wednesday evenings

|

From Wednesday 30th September a new central Reading market at the Wesley Methodist Church Hall from 5pm to 8:15pm has been running. This has been the alternative venue for the fortnightly Saturday market when the RISC hall has been unavailable, so regular customers should be able to find it. There's parking beside the church off Queen's Rd, and the market entrance to the hall is on Watlington Street. The introduction of this venue fills the long standing gap in the weekday evening markets.

Turn out on the first evening was good with over 45 people coming through the doors. This included a few old friends but also many newcomers, who we hope will make True Foods a regular part of their shopping pattern
